I plan to change the oil and filter this weekend, but didnt get the dealers on time to get an original BMW filter, so bought an MANN fiter this morning. However, they don't look as well made as the original one.

Should I wait till Tuesday and get the original item.

I actually have an original filter sitting in the garage but its been there for months and I didn't want to use it in case if was affected by damp. What is the shelf life of filters?

Took a MANN filter apart the other day (was looking for anything to be worried about)

It had both the anti-drain valve and the over pressure valve which some really cheap filters don't always so I'm happy enough that it's up to the job.

Other than that, it's just a paper element which sieves the oil.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Does anyone know about the shelf life of filters and if being stored in a damp garage would affect the filter media?
