I am thinking of converting an e30 to diesel. I like the sound of the 2.5tds. There was a e30 diesel sold on the continent ( the 324td) so the engine should fit

You will have to change a lot more than just the engine with a diesel!
Fuel tank, fuel pipes and so on!

If you are interested in a Diesel E30, a friend of mine has a 324 for sale. Its a 1990 model and has been converted to right hand drive

It is different, exellent engine compared to the usual 4 cyl diesels
The straight 6 gives heaps of torque. It really is a pleasure to drive.
About the conversion though, I eventually want an E30 tourer with a 2.5tD engine or an M50 with LPG setup that I will use for dragging me and my tools up and down motorways for work

The 3.0td from the E46/39 would be a beast, tyre shreading torque with good MPG !

Thats a good idea, I could stay in bed for an extra half hour if I could get to work that quick!

There was an M3 replica built by a guy near me with the 3.0d - the conversion didnt seem to be done that well and looked a bit 'homemade', but hell did it go, it was well quickAndy335Touring wrote:The 3.0td from the E46/39 would be a beast, tyre shreading torque with good MPG !
And I remember another one on ebay along time back - old forum time I think.

The sound would be a let down but what a practical/fast DD it would make, especially if it was a touringbut hell did it go, it was well quick Sounded a bit, well like a diesel

There would be many challenges, the prop length, clearances, the sump etc... I was hoping to get some insight into the dash electrics, ie the econometre, revcounter, that might be different. I have no problem with the diesel sound mixed in with the straight rumble, given a potential 180bph and some substantial torque!!! I plan to do this conversion on a 1994 1.6 touring.
