Hi Guys,

After playing around in the garage for a few hours last night, I found out that there really isn't anyway of fitting the sliders in without drilling the floor which I don't want to do. And I am not prepared to pay 70 each for a subrfame as I think it is a complete rip off for a few bits of metal!

Just wondering how you guys have fitted yours?

My plan I think atm is to weld small blocks on both ends of a steel support/bar that travels from the bolt near the door to the bolt near the centre console at both the front and back giving me a | | type frame that is elevated slightly from the floor. I was then going to drill the bars and mount the universal sliders accross them from front to back.

Should work, haven't thought about the seat belt yet I guess I will need to weld another strip on the sliders. but I'm just wondering what other designs people have come up with and ways of doing it.

Cheers!

Buy the subframes, take them to an engineering place to get some copies made up (Or make them yourself) then send them back! winkeye

This isn't going to be that helpful but I have a Sparco Pro 2000 and here is what I did:

I used to have it fixed (not adjustable) with a mount my father and I made from aircraft aluminium. We also unbolted the seatbelt clip thing from the original seat (I have the Recaro Recaro's if that makes any difference) and bolted it onto the side of the Pro 2000. It has 4 bolt holes on the side for mounting, one at each corner, so we put one bolt through the seat belt clip thing before we put it into the seat. That probably wasn't a good way to do it because the seat wasn't designed for that. We had the seat mounted about as low as it would go, which was good because with a helmet and harness on I was only 1cm or less from the roof.

Now I have just bought and the seat rails and had them fitted by a guy that builds roll cages (and other things) for race cars. These are the double locking race type ones. He also put a bolt through the transmission tunnel for the seatbelt clip thing and reinforced it and everything. He also had to make up some of the frame anyway to get it to fit right. Total cost (runners, fitting, etc.) AUD$700 8O . The seat only cost $900. It's also too high now, I won't fit with a helmet anymore but he has made it adjustable for height (I have to take the frame out to adjust it though) so hopefully I can get it a bit lower. It also moves a bit a the moment so I'll have to go back and get that checked too.

Anyway the homemade version worked fine, better than the bought one so far, but I don't know how safe it was. Fortunately I didn't have to test it.

EDIT: I forgot to say that the new setup is road legal as far as the mount goes. The guy that did it does mod plate things and he would give me one for the seat now, except that my car is a 2 door and because the seat doesn't fold up to let people out of the back (in an accident or something) I would have to register it as a 2 seater and take the back seat out. It is also CAMS (the Australian motorsport body) approved I think so ok for most/all motorsport in Australia.

Hi Mate,

Thanks for the reply.

Well what I did in the end was pretty much as planned. I bolted two supports going from left to right side of the car into the original bolts. I then drilled the metal bars and bolted the seat runners to them.

I haven't taken the car out yet, but they seem solid as hell, I can rock the entire car around by grabbing hold of the seat, and there is no movement on the runners or mounts.

I'm hoping it will be ok, I've actually bolted the seat belt buckle as a temp measure to the seat, as you say there is a framework coming off of the side with a 10mm bolt going about two inches which I have attached this to.

I'm just wondering what will come into the MOT, i know the runners and framework that I have made is strong, but I am wondering if they wil question it as it is not original or standard?

Thanks,

Steve
