inside the fuel tank.
to get to it, take the back seat out, then on the offside you'll see a black plate with 4 cross head screws, underneath that you'll see the fuel tank access. you'll need to take the level sender out first with the 4 nut's(8mm iirc)
then turn the access plate a little anti-clockwise and lift out, obviously after you've taken the 2 plugs off and the fuel supply pipe.

Could a few early ones have the two pump setup with a primer pump in the tank and a pressure pump by the rear left wheelarch? I had a facelift M40 with this set up.
