Sounds like it could be cause by loads of things from the ECu to the fuel pump. I can't really offer a better opinion without more information. I would say however that I have heard of this happening in the past abeit not on M50s and it has turned out to be the crank sensor.

need to give more info mate
pull a plug out and crank it to see if you've got a spark. Check if it is getting fuel too

Not quite so easy on a M50 as on a M20. Smell the exhaust for petrol.E30BeemerLad wrote:need to give more info mate

You need fuel, spark and compression for an engine to run. Lack of compession is unlikely, so you have to work out which of the other two is missing (or both).

Is that due to coil packs Brian?Brianmoooore wrote:Not quite so easy on a M50 as on a M20. Smell the exhaust for petrol.E30BeemerLad wrote:need to give more info mate

Yes, you'll have to take the covers off, undo a coil pack, take out a plug, stick it in the coil pack, earth the coil pack metalwork and make sure the plug body is earthed.E30BeemerLad wrote:[

Don't skimp on any of this, as I think it's fairly easy to spike the ECU.

its ok lads, after a bit of detective work and pulling various fuel hoses off i had a hunch that it was not getting any petrol i found that the fuel pump had died so i have just replaced it and it is going!!!
