All,
Looking for some advice regarding a problem with the steering on a 1986 E30. When you put the key in it unlocks the steering lock, however the steering wheel will only turn slightly with great force (about half an inch each way). Steering column, universal joint shaft and tie rods move only a fraction both ways). Car has been lying up for about two years and I am now wondering whether this may have something to do with it? Is there anything that can be done to resolve this problem, or properly diagnose it?
Regards,
Rav

there is another thread with the same title as this with the same issue, only not as bad as yours.
PM Dazleeds and see how he is getting on.
Similar situation, car had been parked up for a bit, only 4 months though, but same kind of problem.

Problem solved - Drove it back and forth in a straight line for about 20 minutes while appling pressure to the steering wheel both ways.
- Steering must have seized up from lying idle for such along time.
Cheers for the advice!
