Hi all, I have one silly question really.. I need to change the waterpump and thermostat today but it's raining here. Will the rain damage the electrics as I don't have a garage and it has to be done today, I don't mind getting wet but don't want a car that then dosen't start.

Cheers

Should be fine, if your worried out a bag over the dizzy, other than that no real risk IMHO. I pressure wash / hose my engine loads, never have a problem...

Carefully! have done for years with no side effects... obviously don't blast the alternator, dizzy, electrics etc.

By the way, the weather is gorgeous down here at the mo :D

The sun is shinning, blue sky and i can see right down to the Poole & Bournemouth coast line

Edited quote from Dobbie 82

"our touring is getting a thermostat and waterpump fitted on monday, funnily enough I am not volunteering and poor hubby is gonna get drenched! (has rained here every day for about 10 YEARs so far)"

tis the district of lakes after all...

Water in the loom connectors can cause probs though and the engine oil level switch plays upon mine when the engine bay gets wet.

And now it's hailing  I'm cold, wet and hungry.... I sometimes hate old cars

Anyone know any tips on getting the water pump back in place pushing against the cam tensioner spring and keeping the bloody gasket lined up with the holes??? :cheese:

Should be able to put the pump on without the tensionser, and then once it's all done up, you can push the tensioner back in :D

Do you mean remove the whole tensioner unit? cause that would make it a hell of a lot easier, I've already ruined one gasket trying to line it all up..

Getting the old one off is easy just wait till he tries to fit the new one against the cam tensioner spring  I've had a mare and gave up.

Good luck anyway to mark, I hope your keeping him supplied with plenty of hot drinks :D

No, just the spring bit.

You should be able to put the pump back on and then install the spring once the bolts on the pump are all done up.

Saves battling against the spring etc.

Once the pump's on, get the spring and it's pin all lined up with the hole in the tensioner and give it a push with a flat headed screwdriver untill it compresses enough to snap into the little recess in the pump body :)

Just re-read my last post, really didn't explain that at all well! Sorry! :(

Come on Dobbie82! Don't be so sexist. Get those sleeves rolled up!

Nah, as long as he does not have to do the washing up when he comes in!

That's what I thought, I'll give it a go when I've got a new gasket - cheers Turbo :thumb:
