Hi,

When i start up my car and for about the first 10 minuites (if not longer) there is a smell of unburnt petrol in the car, and it is stronger outside the car. Any ideas what this could be, i dont see anypools of petrol on my drive, so i dont think it is the fuel tank.

Also my M40 has burned 1-2cm's of oil in only 1000 miles, could this be related? :( Oh and my car still wont idle, i took it to bmw who couldnt fix it, and emailed ant a few times but with no reply. :(

Many Thanks.

Are you getting any blue smoke out of the exhaust....?

Hi,

No the exhaust is a bit smelly and the fumes are quite prominent, but they all look white to me. I have thought that e30's in gneral are a bit 'fumey' due to their age?

Thanks

check the fuel pipe that goes into the fuel rail
they usually perish and crack
thus dripping petrol when running

Ok, will do Malcolm. Roughly where is this in the bay? Also im guessing its fairly easy to replace, but wont petrol go everywhere?

Thanks

the parts I replaced on mine were 16 & 17

take the top half of the inlet manifold off
and you will see all

you will get a little fuel spillage
but the fuel will only run if being pumped

part number 13 31 1 703 489
you will want 2
they are about £4.50 each

You wont really see any drastic quantity of petrol from a leak - it evapourates too quickly, get a torch and have a good look/sniff around.

By the way - what do you wanna do with this parcel shelf - im back down in Kent now.
