This is an ongoing problem and I am at the stage of twitchy eye's and tick's.
I did a oil change with 5w40 fully synthetic Fuchs, this is when the problem started. I spoke to BMW and they said this was a common problem with the thinner oil and to change to 15w40, which I did. I have since added a ITG filter and a Big bore throttle body and it is still happening. It is using a bit of oil, but a recent commpression test showed all 6 cylinders at 12 bar. I have renewed the rocker cover breather pipe and the o-rings on the crankcase drip tube.
BMW said it sounded like back pressure/breather problem, but from where.
I have noticed if I take the oil cap off while engine is running there is a lot of oil coming into the valve train from the front of the head.
Should the valves be lubricated via the spray bar only.
If there was too much oil coming in via the bearing's or similar would that cause too much oil passing through the breather pipe?

Sorry for the long post, but this is now really getting me down.

cheers.

Yep could be caused by too much oil in the head. I don't see where it can be coming from though.

With the rocker cover off there seems to be a lot of oil coming up at either end of the head at either end of the cam.
Only problem is I don't know how much oil shoul be circulating through the head.
Just seems more than is needed.
Would the engine run if I disconected the breather pipe to see how mush was coming out?

is it overheating?

i think the spray bar is the main source for oil coming into this area but don't quote me.

Is your spray bar blocked and or lose either end?

Hi simon, spray bar is working fine, small droplets and is tight. The oil is coming up from where the camshaft guide/clip sits at the very end. Are there any seals that could need replacing. Now the weather is a bit warmer there is no smoke from the exhaust, so I'm sure it's something to do with this.
Would a diagnostic test spread any light on it does anybody know.
I'm assuming i will be suffering from loss of power as well.
Could always double check the spray bar, what's the best way to do this?
Sorry, car is not overheating and using no coolant.
Anyone around the Colchester area who could have a look and see if normal??
