Hi there,
I've got a 320 touring witha bbackbox that looks the worse for wear (so bad i thought it had a single exhaust pipe

)
what i'm wondering is that on the GSF website, the 320 2 part backbox is only listed at Ԛ£85.50, but the 325 2 part has a cost of Ԛ£114.50
are these parts interchangabe, and does the 325 one allow better flow/lower back pressure?
thanks

I think..not 100% that that price is for 320i with a single pipe, now I'm not sure which 320i's came with a single pipe, but my 320i touring has got the same 2 piece twin pipe system as my 325i sport had. When I removed the sebring back box from my sport I fitted it to the touring with no problem.
Take a look at your system, if it's a twin pipe (from the front to back) and a 2 piece then it should fit fine.

My 320 touring has a twin pie all the way through, but I don't remember the backbox being over the ton when I replaced it

No it won't fit because 320's have single pipe all the way through and also the manifolds are smaller, you'd have to fit a 325i manifold if you wanted to fit a 325i exhaust.

Yes it does,my old 89 320i touring had a twin pipe (from manifold) exhaust system just like the 325i.
When i did my engine change to a 325i i used the 325i exhaust manifold and the original 320i exhaust system. All mated up perfectly.

Well maybe someone fitted a 325i exhaust to your 320 before you got it.

Adam, if you look at the ETK, you'll find that 320i/325i share the same manifold. I've got a 325i exhaust on my 320i and it fit's fine.
Some 320i's have got a twin pipe system.

Nope totally original from factory,a unmolested example until i changed the engine and found out the exhaust system are interchangeable on the 6 cylinder tourings (saloons might be different??)

I just checked 320i/325i touring and saloon, and they all show the same part number for the exhaust manifolds.

There are definately 2 different manifolds, perhaps later 320's came with the same manifold as the 325??
The other manifold is DEFINATELY smaller, there's a different gasket exactly the same shape but 1cm shorter.

its true, there are 2 exhust manifolds, Datourer and i have the 2 peice set and others have the single cast peice.
mine had a double downpipe set into the mid box, and exits as a single to 318 looking back box
it was a three peice arrangement, rear secion was removed and replaced it with a custom twin pipe style

My 89 chassis definitely fits the same manifold and exhaust as 325 - I had a 320 engine with 325 manifold and exhaust system and now have 320 engine 325 manifold and 320 exhuast, i had checked that the manifolds were the same part number on ETK and RealOEM.
to explain the chassis started off wiht a 325 engine which was replaced

I've a '89 320 Touring auto in the workshop, parked above a '89 325 Touring manual. The exhaust systems are identical down to the position of the spot welds.
