Hi guys,

i went to look at a sebring grey motorsport yesterday, and came across a problem, so was wondering if any of you guys could help before i buy it?

It was sitting on Azev A alloys and the back passenger side wheel was sticking out slightly, so when i went to drive it was rubbing bad, the chap said its probably just the tracking , but i was told by a mate that E30's cannot have tracking done at the back.

The passenger side was fine and when i pushed the boot down the arch would sit over the wheel but not the drivers side ?

any ideas (possibly accident damaged) ?

You are right about the rear tracking, It cannot be altered on the E30.

I would look at possible accident damage, Pushed in rear quater, Bent rear trailing arm, could be just a wheel spacer fitted.

But if one side is rubbing and the other is fine, then i would be very suspiscious........

I would check the tyre sizes, its possible that hes fitted a tyre thats too big on that wheel (got a cheap tyre maybe), if serious about buying it, I would remove both rear wheels, check for spacers and replace the wheels on the opposite sides (could be that one wheel is wider?). If you still have the problem on the same side, then the car is at fault, and it would be best to walk away.
If the problem is now on the other side then its probably just the wheel.

Either way, the seller of this car clearly knows nothing about E30's so dont beleive anything he says.

thanks guys,

he kept saying it was on coilovers so it was lower on one side, and i had to make it clear to him that it should not affect the rubbing as the other side goes down perfectly.

yep could also be the spacer, i was told the same thing.

he said he will sort it so i will go and check it out again maybe take it to a garage and look at the underneath incase anything is bent.

also the central locking was not working, i take it thats a relay located behind the front footwell speaker. would the central locking affect the windows going up when the door is closed , as the windows on a convertible go up slightly if if i am correct when door shuts?

thanks again
