Hi there, i am having a problem with my 1987 E30 M3....
I started it up, and it started fine, i was on the phone so was just letting it idle. All of a sudden it went of and wouldnt come back on.
I have checked and there is fuel but no spark at the plugs.......so i checked coil and no spark from coil. When ignition is on there is 12v going to coil so i assumed a faulty coil. I swapped the coil over with a known good one and still the same, was wandering if anyone had any ideas........many thanks...
Regards
Abbas

this happend to me on my 325 e30 back in the summer.
i was chattin to some birds at the time. how i looked so cool
im still not 100% sure what it was, but its definatly one of these: (on mine anyway)
see the air flow meter, pull that electrical plug off and spray it with WD-40 or similar inside the contacts to clean them, and make sure they look clean as to ensure a good contact.
then these are a bit harder, on the passenger side (im in uk) in the bonnet there are a load of electrical connectors that fit to inlet manifold. have a real good look, pulling them apart and spraying them inside to clean of dust. do them all if you can.
what has just happend to you kept on happening to me. got to the point that it was 50/50 whether my car was going to start or not!!
i did the air meter, and some random plug under the inlet manifold and it starded 1st time, and has not done it since.
if you do manage to clean them and it dont fix, im guessing the m3 has the set of 3 relays like the 325.
mine are on the inside of the suspension leg also on passenger side.
if you know your electrics, you can pull out the relays 1 by 1 and look underneath. then work out which 2 pins to connect on the car to by pass as if it were working all the time.
let me know how you get on!
