Hi Guys N Girls. Quick question, while starting my 318Is up on the cold mornings I have noticed that what I guess is the fan belt has been squeeling, just been for a drive and it's now happening everytime the revs drop (i.e sat in traffic), this stops once the revs increase or when I rev the engine. How easy is it to cure?, do I change the fan belt or simply tighten it up?. Keep in mind that I am a total novice with basic tools.
Should I attempt this myself, what do I need and if a replacement belt is called for what size do I buy?.
Thanks in advance,
Red Devil.

Change the fan belt, then you know it has been done, Just go to your loacl parts place and ask for a Fan/Alternator Belt for a 318IS.

Cheers Kam, is it an easy change though?, something I have not tackled before, worried about tension settings etc, or is it simply one off, one on?.

Ive changed the belt on mine many times.
All that you need to do is:- Loosen the alternator to releve the tension in the belt, take the belt of, fit the new one, and retension, as a rule of thumb, the correct tension should leave about 1/4" of "Play" in the belt, that is, you should not be able to move the belt up or down between the pulleys more than 1/4".
