Hello,

I just took a few hours to clean the throttle body, ICV, ducting to AFM and AFM, ICV, Throttle position sensor and reassembled the lot on my 320i.

The car seems to idle more regularly than before but puts out a bit more smoke than before. The cleanup has obviously disturbed things a bit.

Should I disconnect the ECU to reset it or is it just a matter of having the hydrocarbons readjusted by a garage?

If I were to reset the ECU, how long would it be until the car were to perform normally again? How drivable would it be until the ECU has readjusted?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

The extra smoke may just be the solvents etc that you used burning off. The ECU doesn't usually go down after a couple of hours. If you give the car a drive, if you are happy that there are no unusual bangs creaks or rattles from the engine drive for a while in third up and down the rev range, this should be enough to reset the ECU if that was the problem. You will also be able to tell then if the exhaust smoke is back to normal. There is usually a fair bit of condensation from the exhaust in cold weather, its sometimes hard to tell what is smoke and what is just condensation until the car has been driven and warmed up properly.

Cheers

Brian,

Thanks a lot,

The car runs well now and there is no more smoke - must have been the burning solvents. ECU must have reset at this stage as I've done 50 miles since the cleanup.
