Take measurements of your bores to determine if they've been increased. I didn't know Hartge even worked on a 320?? Have you got paperwork supporting this or did the last owner just tell you this?
Failing that, give Birds a call and if it was converted, they should have all details of your car and be able to tell you what was done to it.
If it turns out to be a stock bottom end, a 325 head will not work with the 320 bottom end.

Dont have any paperwork regard the conversion, Im taking the previous owners word on it, when he had some work done on it his mech had to use parts for a 3.23 not a 3.20.
If it has been rebored to a 3.23 would a 3.25 head work? Also who are "Birds" and were would I find them as I am in the S.A. not the UK?

just e mail hartge and if it is one of their cars they will tell you all you need to know. they will email you with details of the closest hartge dealer.

As adam said it's birds uk over here and they were most helpful with mine. they've lost the records of the early stuff (or can't be bothered to find it) when they computerised the system. but luckily kevin bird is a very nice man with a very good memory and identifyed mine through a few unique things. i.e pre hartge manifold and strut brace (as they were not avaliable back then).
apparantly mine was one of the first 5 they did! give them a bell on 01895 810850 if you get stuck. but bear in mind they are usually very busy!

Strange conversion if its been bored. the 320i and 323i share the same block and bore size.

so the 2.3l capacity is acheived through changing a few internals on the 320?

Hey guys, Im Back! armed with a replacement c\head for my cab (skimmed, ported and most importantly not cracked), wich I intend on doing as soon as possible. like tomorrow.
Any way to the pointwhat is the easiest way of get the #1 piston to TDC I was checking through the manual, and came across the rotor arm trick when you, point the rotor arm in the direction that the #1 ignition lead would fit.
Only thing is I am not entirly sure I was checking the leads last night they are all different lengnths, but then I noticed that they were numbered (2-6) and I have two leads that are both numbered (6) and no lead numbered 1. Its thrown me off a bit. Do those numbers have any significance.
