my brake lining wear light is just starting to flicker...
i know it's a bit lazy to ask rather than look but... does this light take a feed from the rear brakes as well? only i had the front wheels off at the weekend and the front pads looked fine. i've only ever encountered this light working on the front wheels only before now.

Pad wear sensor is on front left brake only on drum rear braked cars, and on rear righr on all disc braked cars. If both pad sensors are OK and the plugs and sockets are clean and pushed together properly, then see a recent thread where I explained the probable problem inside the instrument cluster.

Check the wire from the pad sensor isn't rubbing on the inside if the wheel rim.

Following Brian Moores' advice I tested the dry joint theory
Smack the instrument binacle on the left hand side - Light goes on
Smack the instrument binacle on the righ hand side - Light goes off
So I have a crude, but tempory solution. roll on the dry weather so I can pull the instrument panel and fix it once and for all.
