something weird happened today. My speakers sudenly fizzled out, randomly, while driving. the head unit was still on. everything on the head unit still works, the cd still spins;
The head unit still makes a sound when operated with and without the remote. All wires are still connected to the speakers properly; no wires leading to or from the head unit are cut or damaged at all or frayed.All the connection seem fine and tight. All connections are clean too.
I have disconnected and reconnected the battery for about 15 mins and still nothing. Its not the cd either iv changed that also
when you reconnect the socket in the dash there is a slight crackle at first from the speakers but still nothing,
i cant go without sond for long, PLEASE HELP!

It sounds like you fried the amplifier chip inside the head unit.
Probably need a new unit.
You can have a sniff of the back of the unit and it probably smells of burning.

some head units use two fuses one for the amp and the other for the rest of its operations you may be able to just change the fuse.

I bought a head unit a few years back and the second day it was in the sound just stopped and that was it, they exchanged it no probs. I think every so often a duff unit makes it to the shop, not worth the fuss mate take it back and let them deal with it !

yeah matey, i can vouch for grantley's comments, def sounds like head units outputs are playing up... same happened here.. take it back mate, and the chances are that after a rest it will work fine at the shop and they will think your mad, but demand an exchange or money back...

What make head unit is it?
Try removing the wiring loom from the back of the unit (should be a black plug where the wires go in) and pushing it back in, making sure you push it in properly. I had a similar prob with a H/U before and I was just taking it out the car to go and pay a shop to fix it when I noticed the problem.
Failing that, it probably is the internal amp in the H/U, I used to work at Halfords and nearly all Goodmans units and alot of Blaupunkt had the internal amps go within 6 months.
Also, are you running any subs/amps from the H/U?

The head unit I mentioned going wrong was a Pioneer, as Blingsta said they might question you if they try it and it works O.k for a bit but stick to your guns mate the fact it works intermitantly is there problem not yours. The fact is you aint taking it back for the crack are you and if you ask for a exchange they'll realize its not just a case of you needing the loot or deciding you want a differant radio, if it is faulty goods it comes under the sales and goods act of 1982 which states the goods bought have to be of a merchantable qaulity. Basicly thats means the f@cker gotta work, good luck dont be fobbed off
