I am guilty of being the person who has flashy brakelights instead of indicators at the moment.
the puzzeling thing is its only on one side and activates the check brake light on the control panel and it stops once i have been driving for about 20 minutes.
any ideas?

That can mean there's water in the electrical system near the rear lights.

Nothing to do with water, unless it's the long term effect in the form of corrossion.
Water has no effect on low voltage, low impedance circuits whatsoever.
Your car lights would work quite happily at the bottom of a river.
Your problem is with the common arthing of that cluster (brown Wire).
Probably with the plug/socket connection where the lamp carrier plugs in.
Half the Fords and Peugots over three years old on the road suffer from this, but never seen it on a BM.

i tried the basic wd40 approach which seems to of helped.
I also found a loose bulb floating around inside the lights which probably didnt help! (disclaimer I have only owned the car for 36 hours!)
