325i temp gauge

where does your temp gauge sit during normal operating temp?

My 2.5 sits half way up exactly when driving normally

where as my 320i goes a little over a quarter and moves slightly between there and half way.

Anything between 1/4 and 3/4 is normal depending on the speeds you're doing, yours sounds spot on.

3/4 is a bit high I would have said Paul, unless you're in traffic in summer, if mine went up that high I'd get a bit worried, the fan should cut in at around half way.

My sport used to run slightly over half in the summer, and I was never happy with this, I always thought that was too warm, I tried solving this by changing a lot of parts, but after about 3 months I found that the head had cracked.
After replacing the head it ran at between 1/4 and halfway and I was happy at last.
My 320i tourer runs at 1/4 all day long and never seems to go any further.

1/4 to 1/2 normally, over halfway if it's being abused, but normally no more than 1/2.

I found that the temperature sender (the brass screw in bit) was corroded and was giving a untrue reading before, changed and sorted.

Sorry i didn't make that clear really, that's what i meant by what speed you're driving at, if it's 40 degrees outside and you're sitting in traffic for an hour then 3/4 would be normal.

I changed all the parts on mine, viscous fan, new hoses and thermostat etc, and ran audi summer coolant/antifreeze in it, never went about 1/2 ever, which i was happy with.
