Windscreen Wipers - resting position

Right Ive searched the site, and although there are lots of questions in the technical section on windscreen wipers, nothing seems to match this problem.

Ok, wipers are working fine but will never automatically go back to the resting position. You have to manually time it right to switch them off when in desired position, otherwise they just stay in the position when the stick is turned off.

I'm thinking a relay rather than a motor - any advice anyone?

i had the same problem on mine on the intermittant setting see the guide in the articles-technical section i read the guide but decided to change the motor as i had to take it out to re-grease the contacts anyway.

ps mine failed the mot for this (and a tyre)

My wife's e30 had the same trouble, wipers would not stop by themselves at rest.

At the time I new nothing about the e30 so i bought a new motor but later found out that the contact disc on the back of the motor gearbox was soaked in water and manky grease, so I cleaned it and re-greased with proper electrical contact grease and that motor now lives happily in my e30.
