Read most of the posts from the forums - not had much luck so far...

Problem - Rev counter sits at 2.5k constantly, sometimes, it'll go back to idle speed, sometimes it'll go to where it should be, most of the time, it just sits at 2.5k !!

Car had been sitting about for quite (quite a while) a while before I got it, it's a 1990 320i.

Anyway, took the cluster out, got my mits on the SI board, guess what - it's got the lithium batteries....so they shouldn't affect (or would they??)

Temp gauge never moves much past the first part of cold, so clearly something up with board. :(

any suggestions - please ? Off to find a plastic surgeon for skin grafts to my hands after taking the cluster out.......

Lithium batteries don't normally short circuit and give trouble, and don't actually do anything when the cluster's in the car with the battery connected, but there's always a first time for everything!
Could be a different fault with the SI board I suppose.
Measure the voltage across the batteries - If it's 3V across each, then they're OK.
Can't remember if its the speedo or the tacho, but one of the needles is driven by a pair of gears. Had one once where it would physically stick in one place most of the time, becase of a minute piece of grit in one of the gears teeth.
