Ive just stripped out my interior and i am gonna need some welding.

I have a few small areas with only slight to medium surface rust and was wondering what the best way of removing this is.
I was goin to use one of those steel wheel things that connect onto a drill or cord less to remove the rust.

Also what do you guys recomend to cover the bare metel with once this is done, ive already got some black hamerite from ages ago, could i use this.

I have been told not to bother with rust treatmen as it never really work, any opinions or advise very welcome.
cheers

I would use the wire wheel brush that you mentioned and try to clean a larger area than where the rust was (just to be sure). I've used a rust treatment and IMO its better than just painting over the top of bare metal, the one I used only takes about 15 min to dry then I gave it another coat. As soon as this was dry I apply'ed a few light coats of etch primer but the most important thing is to really be sure you've removed all the rust or it'll be back in no time. When I did mine I used a dremel with a small cutting/grinding wheel then a steel carbide brush to clean the area back to the bare metal and treated it imediatly. As for what to paint it with I dont think it matters if its inside the car just be sure to get really good coverage and a few good coats, Good luck !
