hi guys i have just noticed that behind the passenger seat on the rear footwell the carpet is wet. i pulled it up and the rubber backing is soaking. i also have a smaller than 5p hole there but i cant imagine that much water coming up through there. also the hood does not leak when driving but i do park it on a hill with the boot facing down. i left the carpet up last night to see how much water would be sitting there today and when i got it i could not see much change. but when driving quite a bit of water rushed out of a little hole thats on the bottom of the rear door card. so im not sure if it is coming in the windows and then trickling behind card ect.. just want to know if anyone else got wet back carpet? cheers b.
Iv'e 2 cabs mate, and never had this problem. Sounds like perished seals. Possible window seals?. You can get a bit of water under the brushes etc.
The best advice is get yourself a Hardtop!.
They are great for winter.
Cheers Gareth.

It is a long thread going through some possibilities but in the end we found out what causes if!

Hi, I had a similar problem last year (passenger side only) and I managed to trace the path the water was taking. It was seeping through the base of the roof box (I assume down the studs that fix the roof mechanism on and around which the adjustment shims are placed) then running down the inside of the metalwork behind the trim (by the rear speakers) and finishing up on the pan under the seat base. When I drove the car some of this was seeping forwards and down the heelboard to the rear footwell. Have you checked if the foam under your seat is wet?
I found that my drainholes were fine, so I put some thin bitumen paint around the studs and shims, in the front corners of the roof box - not thick enough to block the drains, and hopefully thin enough to get into places water does. That seems to have sorted it, and the drains are still clear. As the car is black it isnt visible.
Hope this helps mate - I looked through that other thread and didnt see any mention of this as the possible source of the problem, so though I would mention it as another possibility.

hi guys first cheers for the help i know sometimes its crap when you got to go over the same problem thats been done in previous posts, but i for 1 am so greatfull. ok had a look today in the box and there was water collecting in the corner passenger side!! so tilted roof back ect.. had a peice of wire to try and fish about with but there was old bits of metal in there gunk and crap stuff probley been there from 87.. so i undone the 1 bolt holding the roof on and went for the trick sod thats in the corner but so much crap in there could not get the socket onto the bolt. so going to have a proper go in the morning. but it is this thats at fault for sure as i tipped some h20 in there and it just ran out of a hole that some wire goes through. it then came out under the rear dorr card and settled in the rear footwell. so ill let you know how i get on over the weekend. all the joys of having a cabby:).. still we get the last laugh when old sunshine comes out.. thanx again guys martin.
the solution is...... HARDTOP
but seriously i had same prob, to reduce water coming into the compartment check the rubber seal around the hoo cover, and fill those small gaps on both sides with some rubber sealant

hi guys problem solved:) took the roof out cards off seats out gave her a good clean unblocked the drain holes and also replaced a small black rubber bung that has a cable running through it by the draining holes. this was the place where most water was coming in. used 5 kettles of water and it ran out of sills evertime also used some silicone around the bung aswell on inside to make sure she stays dry. so now just got to wait for the carpets to dry a bit more.. but thanx guys you were a big help) maybe look at getting a hardtop for next winter as im out of the worst of winter now. b.
