I need some new stud bolts for a cylinder head and have noticed that the inlet side are Zinc (or zinc coated) and the exhaust side are not.
Now as it's the exhaust side i need so what happens if i put the zinc one's in ? :?

17 and 18 on here.

I think that due to the heat, the zinc plating does not last long, causing the studs/nuts to rust up.

The original ones are not zinc and rust anyway, so i can't work out why they didn't fit them to start with :?

this is a PURE guess, but... They may need to be non zinc ones on the exhaust manifold side.
Im thinking along the lines of heat expansion of different types of metals and transfer of heat into the cylinder head.
that manifold gets DAMN HOT.

tell me im

something to do with zinc being too soft, and expansion of the bolts during compression...

i take it this is for your 2.7 conversion matt?

Yeah, looks like i need to get the drill out
I've got two snapped below the surface and three missing so it looks like i'll change the lot :(
The annoying thing is on the inlet side there all perfect.

It's getting there, I'll use the 2L head and the original 525e block and pistons, the things over twenty years old and the crank only needed a polish. I got pissed off with the shark at the local engineering shop who told me i'd need it totaly re-done and then wanted to rip me off for rings and bearings.
I'm sorting out the head now and just working out which is cheapest, drilled valve guides and oversized stems or just new guides. :?

Cheapest option is just to put the head back together and just bolt it on, it didn't sound too sad when i last heard it running. Chances are if i do that i'll be pulling it apart in a couple of months though :x

How's the 325 ? did you shift it ?

I heard on the radio today that the dearest garage in London was a BMW dealership that charge Ԛ£145 an hour, so at that rate you should have it coverd in a couple of days

If the cars that good, beg borrow and steal and then as a last resort sell yours

What about convincing your mate to let you have a payment plan, you know give him all the speal about what a good home it's going to and how well it'll be looked after

The dealers may charge Ԛ£100 odd per hour for certain cars, but rest assured, we dont see much of that money! (off topic sorry!)
