Looking for a bit of advice.

I am swapping all the power steering set up from one Freg 320i to another Freg 320i wihich doesnt currently have PAS.

What i need to know is,are all the pulleys needing to be changed an easy swap?

Is the rack as easy to change as it was on my 318is?

Any other tips/hints would be welcomed :)

why don't you try a conversion to leccy p/s using a Saxo pump or something...should release a couple more bhp and improve engine response slightly too as there is less load on the crank!

Or you could just use non power steering. IMO it has a better feel, but I guess its a personal preference. The only time PAS really does anything is when parking, but if you have a bit of beef on your arms it makes no difference.

Ugh!! The thought of an E30 polluted with anything from a Saxo makes me feel quite ill.

There's nothing easy about getting a power rack onto a 6 pot! Spent last Saturday doing one. Just won't go between the brackets and the sump. You eventually force it in, try to connect the sreering linkage, and it falls out again. Get it back in again, get the linkage on, and the mounting bolts in, and the two steel pipes have managed to cross themselves over .......

Probably, but my car was 6 foot in the air on a ramp, so had no way of jacking the engine.
Settled for bending the bottom bracket down a little instead.

ok thanks Brian, ill see how i get on.
Just one more thing if you dont mind mate, can you just confirm what `DanThe` said about when it comes to changing the crank pulley that it is a simple swap?
No interfering with the belt as such?

Thanks for your advice!

The car im converting isnt mine,it belongs to a mates mate.

I thought it was a bit strange not having PAS on a facelift car, only ever seen it on earlier ones before.

Anyone know if it should have it to start of with?
Car is an F reg 1988 320i.

I wasn't doing a conversion, just changing a leaking rack, but IIRC, the single pulley unbolts, and the double one justs bolts on with six bolts.
Definitely no need to go near the cam belt.
