Gearbox Problem Getrag 240 in 320i

Hi

Getting ready to use the car this summer so changed the fluids. There was a lot of swarf on the magnetic plug on the gearbox but guessed that the oil was very old. However gave the car a run up the road and couldn’t believe the howling when I put in 5th gear. Is this problem fixable or should I just get another box. Is it best to get a 260 and change the prop. Any advice would be appreciated.

You could try adding some Lucas Transmission Fix or Moly Slip, which is a syrupy gloop that is designed to quieten things down...
