Cylinder Identification Sensor (CID)
Moderator: martauto
hi guys just bought a set of aftermarket spark plug leads for my m40 1.8 they do not come with CID, my question is how do i fit the original CID to the new lead. i have also heard you can leave it disconnected , but does that affect the running of the engine or fuel economy .

The lack of the sensor will have a minor effect on economy and emissions. If the new lead can be dismantled enough and is thin enough to go through the old sensor, then it can be fitted.
Nice collection of BMWs you list there! I'm just putting together an E39 530i M Sport in black. Somebody else's project, bought in bits.

I don't envy you the E39, never liked 2005 era to work on. Over designed and over built but with no thought into how easy they would be to work on. Just stripped an E46 and it generated a small mountain of small plastic bits.
Older cars don't have them and they can't afford to put them on newer cars. Ones in the middle I have most problems with.
