Wiper motor temporary smoke
Moderator: martauto
Started my car today after tightening my power steering belt and noticed smoke coming out of passenger side vent so I immediately turned off car, wiper motor was very hot even though it was not being used, I stared car again to make sure it was the wiper but the smoked stopped after a few seconds and everything still works as it should. And there hasn't been any smoke since anybody any ideas
The self-park function depends on a spring arm making contact with a copper disc, this has a smear of grease to prevent excessive wear, but over the years the grease tends to harden and prevent good electrical contact. The first sign is often the intermittant wipe function failing but perhaps a faulty contact could result in overheating and burning some grease off. Running the wipers on fast for a minute or two might help, redistributing the grease, if any is left. The proper thing to do would be to dismantle the wiper motor, clean off the old grease, and replace with a smear of new. Somtimes of course the motor simply wears out!
