My window and sunroof switches are illuminated/working all the time when the car is switched off and doors locked is this normal and would it drain the battery?

They certainly shouldn't be on all the time so they have got a permanent live feed from somewhere. I have seen a retrofit window kit wired into the central locking circuit which is a permanently live circuit. Anyway, you will have to track it down as it will drain the battery over time.

Check the switches in the door shuts.

There are loads of threads on here about this. Try searching for them.

First question: Is this something new that's just started happening, is this a new car to you, or has it always been like this?
Second question: Has anything been done around the starter motor area lately?
Third question: Age and model of E30? There have been relevant changes to the wiring over the years.
