I had always thought that the S.I lights were powered by the rechargeable batteries in the cluster but recently when I was resetting the yellow and red light which had been on for a while, it wouldn't reset. As I didn't want them on all night, I removed the rechargeable batteries as I have these located outside of the cluster but the yellow and red light would not still go out. I had to disconnect the battery to get them off. So it seems these two lights are powered by the car battery or is there a capacitor inside the cluster to keep them on for some time? When I reconnected the car battery today all the green lights were back on and the yellow and red light off so all is well anyway but a strange occurrence. The S.I batteries are 1.2v nicads which were fully charged.

It is powered by the car battery. The batteries on the board are just for back up when the ignition is off.
