Hi guys

Would anyone happen to know which oil is recommended to use when replacing the gearbox and diff oil on my 1988 325i Auto Cabriolet?
I carried out a VIN check on the vehicle and it showed that it has a 25% LSD?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Use this for your LSD

Syntrax Limited-slip SAE 75W-140

Not sure about the auto box - anyone?

From the Wiki page on the site, it states that automatic boxes should use 'Castrol Dexron III' however this has now been replaced with 'CASTROL TRANSMAX ATF DX III MULTIVEHICLE.'
Is someone able to confirm?

Many thanks

Haven't got or had an auto e30 but just put '88 325 into Castrol oil finder and it comes up with

Castrol Transmax ATF DEXRON®-VI MERCON® LV Multivehicle
Alternative
Castrol Transmax ATF DX III Multivehicle

So I guess you could use either

I would double check the LSD is still fitted, although it was fitted from new it could have been swapped at some point

Filtering down further on the Castrol site it looks like only Castrol Transmax DX III meets ZF transmission spec. E30 only used auto tx made by ZF. Up to now I have only used Dexron III spec oil. Do not forget to do a proper service you need to change the filter as well.

Just a Dexron II or Dexron III ATF for the autobox, does not have to be Castrol but stick to a reputable brand and all will be good.

Cheers,
