I am hoping to get a sense check - after 8+ months with Barry, I picked the car up on Thursday - fuse 20 was blown and interior fan not working so I replaced it - still nothing. And when I turn the fan to 4 - the fuse blows.

Now - this would clearly be an issue with the fan blower motor being seized as it only blows when the full 12V goes through?

My only challenge with that thesis is - I replaced the blower motor last year. Now this is a cheap eBay jobbie so maybe it's not too surprising if it dies - but that seems a bit odd? I'm having an issue finding time to get to the fan as I'm on the road currently, so I do need to check if there is any issue with a jam or the wiring, but could it be anything else before I get stuck in?

Cheers,
Gus

It does sound like a seized motor and the fact that it only blows in position 4 sounds like the heater resistor pack has blown as well.

You need to get the volt meter out to confirm it or just pull the blower motor out and check the motor and resistor pack at the same time.

Well, got the fan out the car and it was binding and very crunchy....after a few spins it started spinning freely and voila, problem solved.

I am guessing it got some debris in it from the rust fixing and just needed freeing.

Always nice when it's an easy one for a change!

Brian used to say "dont use wd40, use 3in1 oil to lubricate"
Pop some on if it`s still out or accesable.

Mart.
Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.

Having a similar issue now...but it sounds like the fan has become dislodged somehow...need to pull it and look at it at some point.

Unsure if the 30 quid eBay path was the best one to go.....does anyone know a reputable brand to go with ?

I bought a Topaz unit off ebay here in AUS and it's been very good.
Topran, Nissens are also other AM options.

I figure it's a blower, you don't see, if it craps itself -easy to change it and it's bloody cheaper than OE

The issue I had is when I ordered a Topran fan, there is only one option (https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/topran-h ... -219110290) - and it arrived looking very different

The one I ended up going with was 64116908475 (or https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313086338920)

This seems to be the closest replacement that isn't mega $$? https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/64116908475

Anyone have experience with Vemo?

Although...I think it's maybe just knocked out of alignment...somehow. Sight. All the fun stuff!
