Took the sump off last night to give it a clean out but it was dirtier than I expected. Whats the best method to get rid of all the crap?

Would spraying the sump in Gunk and then powerhosing it be a bad idea or should I just use a brush and something else?

For the internals of the bottom end I just used kitchen roll to wipe everything clean as I didnt want anything getting near the bearings.

Cool was thinking that but wasnt sure if it would do the job. Would it be safe to do that over the crank etc as well?

Would be safe as far as the engine internals are concerned.
Health and Safety Inspectorate might think otherwise!

Exactly what i did to my sump, makes it look a hell of a lot nicer from the outside and more importantly cleans the inside very well. Plus when you are done it'll evaporate off in the sun(if we ever get any in the uk :? ).

Indeed, need to loosen off the engine mounts and hoist the engine up a bit, will come out with a bit of a squeeze.

Pain in the arse job really in situe without ramps, definatly do able, but very greasy job all in all. :(
