Any electrical experts on here?
Got a very strange problem with my 325i.
Came to bleed the coolant today & when I start the engine the rev counter is dead,
But if I turn the engine off & put the key in the start position then turn the fan on full both the mpg gauge & the rev counter move, yet won't budge when I start the engine,
The temp gauge & full gauge both move off their stops whether I run the engine or not.
Anyone got any ideas? As I'm stumped

well after a bit of reading i'm leaning towards the SI board batteries being dead or very near, thankfully i've got a spare SI board & the batteries are showing a healthy 3.25V so fingers crossed this should fix the issue.

Sounds like it is the batteries but ? , my rev counter/ OBC etc failed to show any life and I visually checked the fuses which seemed ok and left the car a day or two . In the meantime I bought a set of instruments off a fellow zoner (which I'll now keep as a spare set) I did a recheck using a multi meter to check the fuse box where I discovered that there was an open circuit on fuse 10 . Getting older isn't improving my eyes sight or pocket
