a while back i posted about an oil leak i'd found on my 2.7 m20,
the leak was right at the back of the sump, turned out to be a tiny hairline crack in front of one of the bolts, i drained all the oil, cleaned up the area round the crack & filled & covered it with jb weld,
i left it several days so the jb weld could cure fully before refilling with oil, ran the engine & checked the area, all good,
well fast forward to today, while checking under the car before it goes for mot i noticed a drop of oil collecting on the bottom of the removable bowl/inspection plate (?), so i took that off, cleaned up round the back of the sump (again) & ran the engine,
while the engine was running there was no sign of any oil leaking but when the engine was shut off & the oil was draining back into the sump it started to collect in that area again,
cleaned u again & turns out there is a tiny nick in the block between the sump, crack scraper & block,
so far i've filled the nick with some belzona (liquid metal, very very expensive) & when that had gone off i covered the area in black rtv sealant.
fingers crossed it stops the leak.
also, the amount that's leaking is miniscule, it only collects the drips a tiny amount & the level on the dip stick doesn't seem to drop at all.
anyone else had this happen?
oil leak (again)

I have a leak from the oil pan, passenger side corner, about 5-8 cm after the rear crankshaft carrier seal. I replaced the gasket 8 times, with all sorts of methods (dry, rtv, hylomar, cork, paper etc etc) tried all sorts of torque patters (from inside to outside, around the pan etc) and it still leaks.steve_k wrote: ↑Tue May 04, 2021 6:18 pma while back i posted about an oil leak i'd found on my 2.7 m20,

I looked carefully and i never found a crack, but now that you mention the bolts, MAYBE i have a hairline crack at that one bolt, but i suspect the pan is not flat since the PO did overheat the car (cracked head) and goodness knows how aluminium can just warp easily with heat. Needless to say, i am bouncing the idea of dumping an expensive €350 for a brand new original pan from my dealership, or going for the €140 for an aftermarket one (for testing purposes).
A Nick in the block.....i know there are some fillers out there made for this specifically, can not recall the brand/name for it. Like you, my leak is just a small wet area that does not effect the oil level between changes. Maybe someone will chime in with a proper solution for that nick you got.

hopefully the filler i've got (belzona) will do the job,HJ1981 wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 5:44 pmI have a leak from the oil pan, passenger side corner, about 5-8 cm after the rear crankshaft carrier seal. i did the repair the other day but because of the raim today i'm leaving it till next week so it's had plenty of time to cure, i'll reuse the old oil to check for anymore leaks & fingers crossed it's worked, if it has i'll flush the old oil out & fill up with new.

well it looks like the oil leak has been fixed, took me about a week.
i drained all the oil, cleaned up the tiny crack as best i could with brake & clutch cleaner, left it to dry till the next day.
cleaned out the crack as much as possible with a dremmel, another shot of brake cleaner ^ wiped down with a lint free cloth (jay cloth).
i filled the crack with belzona 1511 (super HT metal, ****ing expensive but seems to work the best), left that 24hr's to fully cure, next day when that had cured i smoothed it off, cleaned up the area (again).
next i laid the new gasket on top of the crank scraper (held in place with some LM grease) & laid a bead of black rtv sealant on the top rim of the sump,
bolted the sump back up in place & laid a bead of sealant on the outside where the crack was just to be safe,
trimmed off any excess the had bulged out & left it a few days to cure fully (mainly because it wasn't exactly the warmest at the time).
i put the oil back in today, left it 20 mins, checked, NO DRIPS or SEEPAGE!!!!, turned the engine over by hand 5 - 6 times & checked again, NO DRIPS or SEEPAGE,
so, fingers crossed it looks like it's been sorted, will double check later & fire the engine up tomorrow when the battery is fully charged.
fingers crossed.
