Rear quarter panel fitting - cabby

Just a quickie...does anyone know exactly how the original rear quarters were atrached to the sill? Along the bottom of the panel which houses the rear window I've found what looks like the remains of spot welds...these would all be hidden behind the plastic trim...is this correct?

Trying to sort out a terrible old bodge on my car which involved about 10kg of filler.

Ok...now it's pretty clear...spot welded to the sill...and sealed with celulose putty...
