Hello Folks
I've been trying to sort out the last few niggling issues that keeps my '88 convertible off the road, being the Horn and the washer system but the latter can wait for another day.
Hornwise I've tried a great deal of things recommended by various different people. So far I'm at this point:
- Bridging pins 30 and 87 activates horn on both sides, so power is getting there.
- Bridging 30 to ground shows 12.5 volts.
- No clicking from the relay on steering wheel horn button press.
I'm presuming this is simply a ground issue but I have absolutely no idea as I know very little about electrics (learning fast though).
Would the most likely issue be at G104 or through the steering wheel/column or am I on completely the wrong track?
Help greatly appreciated.
Alex

This doesn't make sense, as they appear to be contradictory statements.
A voltage needs to be measured between two points, and the circuit must be under load. A voltage measured with an ordinary meter is close to meaningless on an unloaded circuit.
Try using a 12 volt lamp of at least 5W instead.

Sorry Brian was just updating it as you replied. 30 to earth shows 12.5v, 30 and 87 bridged activated horns. I got myself confused!Brianmoooore wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 2:01 pmThis doesn't make sense, as they appear to be contradictory statements.

So the horn sounds if you bridge 30 and 87?
Take the steering wheel off and use a piece of wire to earth the wire going to the carbon button with the ignition on. Don't use any part of the steering column as your earthing point.
If the horn sounds, repeat, but this time use the top of the steering shaft as your earthing point.

Haha, well, I got to the bottom of it. Thanks for the advice there Brian, much appreciated. Turns out after I swapped the dash and steering column bearings I'd forgotten to plug the carbon button back in again. Facepalm moment if ever there's been one.

Easily done! At least it was a cheap fix.
