I found this unattached to the rest of the engine. it was hanging unattached under the intake. It had two old cracked pipes attached. Is this an old type of ICV? Where is it meant to bolt to the engine? I can see it has two holes for bolting it somewhere.
It had a sensor attached that disappears into the firewall.
I can’t find the part on realoem.

What E30 engine do you have?

Suspect it might be a PCV control valve…

Wierd as my 323i has a different one. The 323's from factory had a T shape valve called and air slide valve which opens as the coolant gets hotter. It has 4 outlets, 2 for coolant and 2 for vacuum. I suspect that yours had gone bad at some time and was swapped over to this electric one which opens by an electric signal like the motronic versions.

+^^ This these type were often used to replace the Coolant fed type, originally Mk1 VW Golf GTI K-Jetronic type The air pipes bypass the idle control screw and the disc inside rotates to slowly shut it off and allow the idle to drop to normal as the bi-metallic spring inside heats up from the 12 volt ignition supply.

Just needs 12v ign supply and a good earth. On VW/Audi models they were mounted to the inlet manifold.
