Need help with 5 lug swap

I'm preparing to do a 5 lug swap and collecting as much information as it possible. I have read guide at e30 wiki about that but I think it might be a little bit outdated because I find out at front there is new way possible thanks to hub adapters that allow to mount e36/e46 hub which allow me to mount bigger brakes etc. front is quite clear for me. Where I get confused is the rear, because some options exclude hand brake which I would like to keep. I have read that some people do a conversion with a whole rear suspension from e36 compact, but what I can't find is that how it is with the geometry comparing to the stock e30 suspension and what if I want to install coilovers, should it be for e30 or e36 if the rear would be from compact? Maybe there is other option that allow me to keep the hand brake - I'm open for your advises.
