Hi!

My sunroof just got stuck in the tilted open position. There's rain coming, so for now I covered it with plastic (I'm on holiday so can't put it indoors). When I press the button I hear a soft click from the sunroof engine, which I assume is the relay. It worked fine 90 minutes ago. I checked the fuses, none are blown.

It happened a few times before where the buttons stopped responding (while driving) for like 5-10 minutes, but it would always start working by itself. This time it doesn't seem to want to start back up!

P.S. it's not the circuit breaker button in my dash

Remove the cover over the motor, slacken off the large hex. nut (spark plug socket), and close the roof by turning a hex. key in the centre shaft.
As for the fault itself, never seen it before, but I'd start with the limit microswitches on the motor assembly gearbox.

Do you mean turning this but with a tool while gently pushing the roof a bit?

If yes, I have those at home but I'll go see if they have a shop nearby!

if you have a tool kit in the boot I think the allen key in that will fit, (it is under the pliers and usually the one thing people don't use)

Fixed! Weird. It suddenly started working again after a 15 minute drive, right after putting it in reverse. The exact moment it had stopped working was also when putting it in reverse to park, and then shutting the engine off for 10 min (roof open).

It doesn't seem to be random (like most problems with cars there's a pattern somewhere), does anyone have ideas where to look to investigate a bit further?

@flybynite you're right actually, the exact tool I needed was in the boot. Ended up not needing it today but in the future I'll know where to look, thanks!

This assumes that you hear a click when the switch is pushed, as you said in the OP.

Could also be a sticking brush in the motor, the relay contacts, or simply a poor connection in the area.

The large nut compresses a clutch arrangement in the drive from the motor gearbox. Turning the nut anticlockwise a turn or two disconnects the drive from the motor and gearbox, allowing you to turn the centre shaft, which drives the two cables operating the sun roof.
