Evening everyone.
Found this random pipe sticking out of the factory exhaust manifold on my 318i with its standard m10b18, what is the point of it from factory? Assuming it is safe to remove and plug with a smaller bung. Had a quick look on Bimmercat for the diagram and labels part 15 as a "pipe".

Nothing like it on either of the two M10B18s I have owned, but there was some weird emissions equipment fitted to some BMW engines of the period for some markets.
There's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't remove it as you say as a tidying exercise.

You're not the first person on here who is in Australia has posted about odd useless bits of plumbing on their engines.
