Hi. I have gradually been sorting the central locking on my '87 Cabby. Renewed the ECU in the drivers footwell behind the speaker, did the 3 wire mod, new actuator for petrol flap, replaced the drivers and passengers door actuators with secondhand ones from Schmeidman (along with some other parts which took forever), the boot lid actuator was ok so left that. So it appears the only lock which locks everything is the boot lock. Locking the drivers door does all apart from the boot. Is this how it should be? Thank you guys, great help to get to this point so far, as the central locking wasn't working at all when I purchased the car.

You probably need to rebuild/replace the driver's door lock.

Short answer is, no, that's not how it should be, but I've no idea why yours is behaving as you say!
You haven't said what happens when you lock and unlock from the passenger door.
For reasons unknown to me, BMW do use separate lock and unlock request wires from the boot lock to the ECU from the lock and unlock request wires from the two front doors.
The boot lock request wire is green/black and goes to pin 8 of the ECU, while the lock request from the doors is yellow/blue to pin 7.
The boot unlock request is green/purple and goes to pin 9, and the doors unlock request is green/blue to pin 6.
Are you sure the lock motors you have fitted are the correct ones? Driver's side and passenger side are different.
The really strange one in your list is the driver's door locking everything except the boot, since there's only one pair of lock/unlock wires (solid white and solid blue) to each lock motor

I shall investigate further and get back to you. The secondhand ones I got from Schmeidman tallied with OEM part numbers when I ordered them but could not read the part numbers on the actual unit when I received them. Are they colour coded ? i.e. red body, white cover etc. There wasn't one fitted on the passenger door.Thank you.

This is theoretically impossible, so is the first thing to check out. In your OP you say the boot lock wasn't changed because it's OK. How do you know it's OK? The white and blue wires go to each lock, and, depending on polarity (which is positive and which is negative), the lock should either lock or unlock, as long as the deadlock isn't engaged.Brianmoooore wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2020 8:02 pmThe really strange one in your list is the driver's door locking everything except the boot, since there's only one pair of lock/unlock wires (solid white and solid blue) to each lock motor
Disconnect the plug from the boot lock and connect a 12 volt lamp to the white and the blue wires. The lamp should briefly light when you either lock or unlock the driver's door.
Connect a 12 volt battery to the pins of the boot lock motor where the white and blue wires would connect for half a second only. Connected one way around the lock should set. Connected the other way around it should unlock. If it fails to do this, the lock is dud.
The passenger door should still set the locks, even if the lock motor is missing, but won't unlock them. A separate microswitch, mounted on the plate behind the key barrel is used to set the locks on the passenger side, rather than the switch built into the lock motor.
Yes, the lock motors for the front doors are colour coded, but I can't remember what they are, and the two E30s in my workshop at the moment which have the door cards off unfortunately both have the very late (and relatively unreliable) E34/36 type lock motors, built into the door latches.
