Ok, so todays question is about door seals!!!

I can see there is obviously the larger seal around the door opening (with the fury bit along it!), but there is also a rubber strip along the top of the doors themselves - are they whats called a 'window guide' on realoem, or am I looking at the wrong piece?

I have water coming in from the top of 3 doors, by the looks of it - and somewhere possibly the boot, or those little quarter(?) windows on rear (touring)...
Are there any seals particularly likely to cause this more than others???
I'm thinking to bite the bullet and replace them all, before my carpet goes back in!

keeping the car water tight has been my obession ( I don't have a garage ), therefore I replaced the boot and door seals using OEM parts , the boot seal not so bad but the door seals  were £270 ish a side and thatwas with discount. Please be aware that Kent Trim offer copies which the quality is not too bad but they don't come as a continous length but with corner piece which joins the both ends together , not ideal imo

Hmmmmm, seen an old thread about those Kent trims ones not being great.

Did the OEM ones work? Are you dry?
And did you do the rubber strips along the door tops, or just the big seals around the door openings?

I'd like to tnink that shes dry but I suspect not due to condenstion appearing some mornings .I think I'll have to lift the carpet or do at least a moisture check to confirm whther the cabin area is dry .When I rebuild the car after her standing for ten years I knew the floor was good and didn't appear to have any leaks ( except for the heater matrix which I replaced) The boot wells have water but I suspect either through the rear lenses or the fixings holding the Mtech spoiler which is my priority once we have a dry spell . I didn't replace the top door rubbers as they hadn't dried out and were still flexible but I will shortly .Sorry but to be clear I replaced the frame seals and not the door seal

It's more than possible that there's nothing wrong with your seals at all. The top frame of the doors isn't particularly strong, and the chances are that it's bent outwards at the top slightly over the years.
Take measurements between the top and bottom of the door and the 'B' pillar with the door slightly open, then wedge a block of wood in the bottom opening, and 'lean' on the top frame inwards a bit, then measure again. You're only looking for a change of 2 or 3mm or so, but it'll make all the difference to the seal's efficiency.
Can't say I've ever done it to stop water coming in, but it's cured wind noise on many E30s.
Water coming in by the touring rear side windows is most likely making its entry via the grommets that hold the 'shark fin' trims.

Interesting - would never have thought of that!
Sounds a bit scary, with me being a bit heavy handed at times, but I'll try and have a look at this when I get a chance.
As for the 'shark fins' - one appeared to be not 100% correctly seated before the car went to the body shop.
I supplied the OEM grommets, but they came back with the car, screwed up in a whole bag of bits!!!
Unfortunately, it's passed through a couple of body shops, via someone else. They both look to be seated well, but wether someone supplied they're own grommets, or used something else, or nothing, I have no idea!!!
