Manual 1991 318i RHD UK car

Hi, I have a couple of questions about the clutch hydraulics.
1. What is the correct orientation of the slave cylinder - bleed nipple to top or bottom?
2. Should the cap of the clutch fluid reservoir have a tiny breather hole in the centre?

Cheers

Odd, but nipple at the bottom, fluid feed pipe at the top out of the way and yes a tiny hole in the middle of the cap.

Thanks for you help Paul. I had seen somewhere on Youtube someone turning it around so nipple is at the top ?? but that is definitely not how mine is so thanks for clarifying that for me.

Cheers

I say it's odd because normaly a bleed nipple is at the top of a chamber to allow the bubbles, which rise to be efficiently expelled.

I once had a 1951 Rover which had the nipples at the bottom of the cylinders on all 4 brake slaves - this required you to clamp each cylinder shut when you bled
the system or you would never get the air out.

But as the BMW clutch system has an element of "self" bleeding as in the bubbles rise up through the whole system and into the resevoir, clearing any air problem.
