Hi,
Having a few issues with the interior lights.
the first problem is that the red backlight for the instrument cluster has given up. all the other backlights for the clock and switches work its just now in the dark I cant see my speed winkeye

Also, the white interior lights up on the roof dont work no matter what switch position they are put in, never have worked either.

Any help greatly appreciated!

I think ..............there are two cap less bulbs in the cluster but please be very careful and not replace them with the incorrect wattage !!
I think they should be 3W and not the usual 5W but have a look in the "wiki" first.

Mart.
Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.

Took out the cluster and got confused. Put the cluster back in and hey ho.... they work again! As with many of the electrical problems with this car just fiddling around with the connections seems to get it working again.

Now I’m embarking on taking out the headlining to replace it with suede and get the lights on that going again!

One thing I am struggling to do, however, is remove the headliner from the sunroof.
The wiki says to pull it down carefully as it is held in with pop rivets.
I’ve tried this and if I pull any harder something is bound to break... do I need to take the sunroof out before taking the headlining off?
Thanks

Yes! Take the sunroof out and than change out its headliner. Much easier that way.

Also, just in case, here’s a good thread on sorting and replacing instrument cluster bulbs that I found helpful a few months back.
