My brakes have started making a high pitched squeak which is painful to the ears of near by dogs :piss:
It only does this on the last couple of revolutions of the wheels when I stop at lights etc... I assume I need to change my pads.
My question is on a standard 325i for road use what pads have the best compromise of feel ( I have been told cheap ones lack feel) and stopping power, my driving style is heavy on the brakes. Also do they do pads which don't mean I have to clean my wheels every week!!! :x And of corse I dont want to spend loads.
Cheers

Don't necessarily have to change the pads.

You could be missing anti-squeal stuff on the pad backing. A bit of copper grease between the caliper and pad backing may do the trick. Use it sparingly and don't get any on the friction surfaces.

Roughen up the pads and discs by giving them a light rubbing with some emery/sandpaper. Not sure if glazing causes squealing though?

One vague reason to change the pads is if the groove halving the surface has been worn past. (This groove attempts to disrupt the primary mode of resonance) Doesn't normally cause a problem though.

Another good trick is to file the edge of the pads to an angle with a file, but don't breathe in the material dust.

Copper ease before winter is a must all the salt on the roads makes the brakes rust right up, coat all the parts where the pads slide also, but as stated obviously not on the friction surface!

Cheers guys,
I did all this when I changed the front wheel bearings about two months ago and the pads were wearing down, had a bit of wear left.
So What pads do you suggest??
