Non starting m40

Evening friend has an 1989 318i m40 which is hard to start when engine is warm and won't rev past 4k changed afm and crank sensor didn't make a difference it had a new fuel pump fitted a few months ago as well changed the blue temperature switch sensor as Well any ideas what it could be

Do the M40 engines come with a FPR? i reckon so.

Connect a fuel pressure gauge and test pressure when bypassing the pump as well as when running.
