320 oil leak

I know it has 1 because it marks its terotary with more enthusiasm than my mates 84 mini

Had it up on a ramp at work and its coming from......... just about everywhere.... ok slight exageration but it seams that the sump gasket has gone all the way round (engine is dry above that) which is ok, not the biggest job on the 2 poster.

Whats really puzzeling me is that the box is covered all over in what looks like engine oil, never seen anything like it before any ideas??

If by box you mean gearbox and there is a constant oil leak from the engine some of it can blow back as you are driving (especially at speed).
If it's been leaking for some time enough oil will have escaped to leave a layer on the gearbox.

I think the box (gearbox) will ce coming off to replace the clutch soon as its got a very high bite point and is probably the origional (142K miles) so will be cleaned up a bit while its off the car, while thats off i will be replaceing the sump gasket and then blasting the sucker with brake cleaner
