Pipe from throttle body

So there is a pipe 'dangaling' from the throttle body. Any idea where this goes?
1991 316i.

Without having a picture I would assume it's part of the emissions control. If the car had a cat' the pipe would connect to a charcoal canister that bolts to the inner wing. Is the end of the pipe blocked off?

I reckon it's one of the vacuum advance retard pipe connectors for the distributor fitted to a few very early models - it has a short blanking tube ( rubber, which rots out and lets in air ) attached on all other models,

The short metal pipe drops from under the mounting flange of the throttle body and should have a stubby rubber blanking tube push fitted on.

If you look behind your alternator you'll see the blanked off fitting point for the not needed mechanical distributor on the side of the block.

I think there were two advance/retard pipes fitted to these very early cars but I'm sure Brian will show up and clarify this and all the rest if I'm wrong!

No, I meant an early 80's car, but obviously no longer used, therefore the dummy block off.

but I'm probably mistaken anyway...

It doesn't seem to affect the running, just annoying that there's this pipe, going no where!

Remove the pipe and block off the stub on the throttle body.

So, following up on this, there is also this wire with an un-plugged connection. We have no idea where this goes, or what should it should plug into into?
We're going to replace the thermostat, for an OEM one as the fan is not kicking in when the engine get s hot.

Any ideas?
