I've just replaced both wipers with no problems. First trip in the rain and the offside wiper went on strike. The nearside works fine. Removing the arm reveals the drive/spindle is splined, the arm is not but it appears slightly conical. I understand that the new wipers are stiffer, with a bigger profile and may have taken a bit more effort to move across the screen. My question is; are the arms supposed to be splined too? Thanks for any help in advance. 1990 325 cab.

I'll answer my own question. Just got the opportunity to get the nearside wiper off. They are supposed to be splined. The errant wiper arm has stripped off all of the splines. Now it has PTFE tape wrapped around until I get chance to replace.
